The Sprinkling of Gardens...

Went in town today intending to buy manuscript so that I could do some writing...ended up spending 25 quid on Cello music. Bugger!!

Got some good stuff though...a book of solos, another of exercises...stuff like that:)

Then went to the Art College and enrolled on a Black and White Photography course starting in April, and met wildgift93 for coffee. We went to a little cafe behind the college and had cappuccino and hot chocolate, looked at photos and had a good old chat!! Was a pleasure to see her again. etceterate met us at half five, bringing with him my ticket to the Valentines Ball fetish party on the 14th and a copy of David Lynch's 'Lost Highway' so that I can watch ALL of it. Huzzah!! He gave me a lift down to theatre after that.

Theatre this evening was highly enjoyable...started the evening with a group massage session as we were all feeling pain after Sunday...then we learnt a new song... 'The Sprinkling of Gardens' (Vom Sprengen des Gartens) by Bertolt Brecht/Hanns Eisler. It's a bit weird, but I enjoyed it. Not sure if the rest of the Weird Cabaret crew picked up the tune too well though...I have an advantage in that I can sight read hehe!!

We spent some time discussing how the Sunday Death Show went...more positive feedback on my opening performance from my director (I think he's finally seeing my abilities lol!) and how well reprising the Worm Song worked!!

Then we got into thinking about what we wanted to do next...a best of? An entirely new show? A new route entirely?

Did some impulse work...walking away from a partner, turning round on impulse, doing something/saying something on impulse.

We brainstormed some different themes to bounce starting ideas from...madness, identity, food...and worked on some improvs for all of these.

Madness produced some very varied material...worked in groups of four and my group worked entirely on impulse...beginning with hand-shaking and seeing where it took us. Damn good... In fact, after seeing it, our director mentioned wanting to revisit an idea that I'd had a few months back...the entire cabaret cast coming in wearing sleeping bags over our heads...just our feet sticking out, and moving in a peculiar manner inside them.

*pats herself on back again*

Identity didn't work too working group was Nick (south african origin), Azo (Kurdish), Elodie (french) and Ali (russian jew) and we did a passport control in which Nick was the translator, I insulted them with the worst racist remarks I could think of (damn hard!) and he translated with 'Welcome to our country, we are very happy to have you!'

Food was the funniest...I was in a group with Jackie, Vic and Jo...everyone else was mostly pretending to be in a restaurant scenario, but I'd been to the health food shop on the way into town and therefore had a bagfull of Japanese Rice Crackers, Sesame Snaps and Green & Blacks Orange Chocolate. Jackie had some bread and margarine with we simply sat in front of the group and ate our food!! Vic nibbled a snap, Jo ate the crackers as if she was watching the tv, Jackie ate the bread in a very refined fashion...and I lay on my back on the floor and ate my chocolate in an orgasmic, seductive manner lol!!!

Ho hum...we eventually decided that the theme of Madness had the most scope for generating material, so we brainstormed ideas on that for half an hour until 9pm.

Now I have tons and tons of research to do...definitions, concepts, artforms and, obviously, the old chestnuts of surrealism and dada.

Went to work at no apology from the hairy Dave wanker...and went off at 10:30 out to Plymstock for a worse-than-dull tour of the machinery at the mailcentre out there...some managerial idea for workplace liasons...YAWN!!

Got back from there at midnight, had a word with Liz (my boss) about Dave...she was sympathetic but probably won't do anything...and I found out I'd won the hour off for UBER-keying last night... I'm always type my fastest when I'm angry!!!

(about 50 words per minute)

Got let out at 5am, am taking my hour off tomorrow so I can stay for 'A-Live' until 10pm and go to work at 11pm.

Going to have a hot drink now and a quick cigarette before I go to bed...still eating rice crackers though...
