It was also spent in the company of the shift manager for a few minutes discussing something potentially dodgy that was suggested at brief...
There is a core group in my team led mostly by two people who are what I call the 'I'm not racist but...' Brigade. They've had a running grumble long term at the one and only moslem on the shift (who happens to be from Cornwall) as he has 'his own prayer room' (like that should ever impact on their lack of religous belief) and because he was unhappy about the xmas decorations over the holidays - as was I - they were shit and the whole season at work was irritatingly tacky... They've also made huge complaints over his wearing once or twice of a t-shirt with an Egypt flag on it (like he complains if they wear English rugby ones) - he's only worn it because he has a girlfriend in Egypt, but hey, perhaps it's an 'immigrant-towelhead-terrorist-atttack-p
It's getting ridiculous. There's a rumour flying around that he said something about being proud to die for his religion - I've not got a problem with that - it's his belief and he's allowed to express it:
John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends."
Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori
Oh for fucks sake - that sentiment lies with every patriotic individual from every religion...
But they're taking it as incitement to terrorism on his part and are getting seriously angry and worked up in a 'non-racist' way. I quote:
"If they give border controls to Europe and let them in I'm taking to the streets" - team member.
What got me REALLY angry last night was, after just such a conversation over fag break, they proposed a team celebration of St Georges Day complete with flag wearing, waving and whatnot in work.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to turn down an excuse for a patriotic piss-up - I'm happy to be any nationality if there's a good party involved - Irish, Australian, whatever... But what fucked me off was that they only want to do this as an underhand way of getting at/protesting at this one individual at work rather than be patriotic about their own country.
The 'St Georges Day' team celebration has a hidden agenda. They've even discussed joining the BNP.
I want no fucking part of it - so I went to the shift manager and forewarned him of what's going on. Trust me, if they do this and wear all their flags and shit I'll be coming in wearing a gay rainbow flag or a peace one or something... AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
Ok, now for something a little less heavy.
I found Mike's old band site online last night - I took the quiz to see what band member I'm most psychometrically aligned with... I got my own boyfriend lol!!!
